Miami Beach Convention Center

Built in 1957. Renovated and doubled in size in 1989. The Miami Beach Convention Center served as the site where Cassius Clay (Muhammad Ali) defeated Sonny Liston for his first Heavyweight Championship of the World in 1964. The MBCC hosted the Republican National Convention and more than 20,000 delegates in 1968. In 1971, the MBCC hosted more than 45,000 delegates for both the Republican and Democratic National Conventions. Newly re-imagined following a $620 million renovation.
